BANGKOK, Thailand – Suvarnabhumi Airport has advised passengers to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time as a maintenance project will block some traffic lanes to and from the passenger terminal from next Monday until April 7 of next year, with the repair and maintenance planned for expansion joints on the elevated roadway connecting the airport to Motorway No. 7.

The project aims to enhance safety standards and ensure the airport’s road infrastructure remains structurally sound and capable of supporting passenger traffic efficiently in the long term, airport management announced on Wednesday.

During the construction period, three traffic lanes will be closed while two lanes will remain open with traffic diverted accordingly, and the closure may cause traffic congestion and delays, especially during peak travel periods, airport authorities acknowledged.

Suvarnabhumi Airport is preparing for seven months of traffic diversions on elevated roads serving the passenger terminal, with expansion-joint repairs scheduled from August 31, 2026, to April 7, 2027.

The work will be carried out in phases, with construction areas rotated according to the repair schedule, and traffic management measures will be implemented to minimise overall travel disruptions.

To avoid missing flights, the airport has suggested that passengers and other airport users plan and allow additional travel time to Suvarnabhumi, and travellers are also encouraged to consider using the Airport Rail Link to avoid the road disruption.

Throughout the seven-month period, traffic management personnel will be deployed on the ground, with warning signs installed throughout the work zones, and motorists are advised to exercise caution, reduce speed, avoid stopping on the shoulder, and strictly follow traffic signs and instructions from officials to ensure maximum safety.

The roadworks represent a significant infrastructure investment to maintain the safety and efficiency of access to Thailand’s busiest airport, though travellers should prepare for extended travel times, especially during peak hours, as the project progresses through its various phases.
